Why we built this

Social media companies delete entire grow communities overnight, usually with no warning.

You pour months into a journal. You build real friendships. You trade hard-won genetics. Then one policy change wipes it out: the Discord's gone, the thread's removed, the account vanished. That's no way to treat the people growing the plant.

So we built a home that's actually for cannabis, where your work, your photos, and your people stay put.

Together we're growing a community

What we're trying to do

Grow & Tell started as a strain explorer: a lineage map for the tangled, beautiful mess of cannabis genetics, where strains get renamed, lineages get mixed up, breeders disappear, and the same plant ends up listed multiple different ways across several seed banks.

Building that record taught us where the history actually comes from: growers like you. So the site has grown into something bigger than an archive. The feed, posts, and journals are the heart of it now, and the record is what the community writes together.

  • Grow together. Document your runs, share wins, ask questions, and get help when a plant struggles. Follow the growers and strains you care about, and keep your work in a home that can't be deleted overnight. No more chasing Discords that have since been deleted, Reddit posts that have been removed, or Instagram accounts that vanish.
  • Preserve the history. Map strain lineages as a connected graph so you can trace a modern cultivar back to its landrace roots and forward to its descendants. Every journal and harvest adds real data to that record.
  • Push the frontier. Give working breeders and growers the tools to publish authoritative strain info, log real grows, and share what actually performs.

What we don't do

  • We don't claim your content. You retain the rights to your journals and images; we do not own your work.
  • We don't accept payment to rank a strain higher or feature it. The lineage graph reflects reality, not who paid.
  • The purchase URL belongs to the breeder — we link to wherever they want and never rewrite it.
  • We don't fake breeders. Verification is done by real humans. Admins approve breeder accounts before they can publish.

How we make money

We want to be as transparent as possible so you know what we're optimizing for. These different sources of revenue help us keep the lights on. If you ever want more details, feel free to reach out to us.

  • Premium tier for growers. Monthly subscription, with a discount if you pay annually. Unlocks phenotype hunting (multi-plant tracking), custom QR codes that link to your journals that you can share, a sort boost on your journals, and an ad-free experience. Premium is totally optional; the core site stays free. See /premium for details.
  • Display ads. The ads on the site are meant to be clearly marked as ads and never disguised as content. Premium accounts won't see them.
